A Nostalgic Flash Mob Dance- By: drew mers

Description : When you hear the words flash mob like maybe a loved one telling you over the phone that there's one going on now where she is, there's no doubt you'll be thinking of some people bursting out in their best dance moves to some upbeat and hip tune. The thing is- these events can also take place where the traditional is the focus. In fact, anything can happen with flash mobs these days. Let's take the one in Riga in August 20, 2009. You might be caught in the midst of the morning rush and lo and behold- dancing happens on the most unexpected time.

The streets are wide enough and the space open enough and suddenly there's someone saying Yeeehaw over the street speakers. Some people that you were walking with start to gather in the middle of the street and they start dancing. You find that it's a traditional song that's playing that the flash mob dances to. At first there were only a handful of them dancing, maybe just about seven of them. Then other people join the dance and their numbers have now doubled. The group is composed of men and women alike, people you didn't think would start dancing in the street.

They go this way and they go that way, ever so gracefully. They start clapping their hands and they start doing the moves you've done only in a presentation in school to make the grade. At one part of the flash mob presentation, everyone huddles close together. They hold each other's hands and they spread out as like a flower blooming in spring. They circle one another this way and that and form into smaller groups of four. Still doing the traditional dance, you feel a little whimsical feeling come over you with the music coming from the speakers.

Around you everyone's either pulled up their handy cams and their digicams or stood in silence to watch the spectacle. One thing is similar though, everyone has a smile on their face. The young, the old, they're all smiling. A couple was even so taken aback with the dancing and the music that they started to do a little bit of the dance themselves. You can't deny it- what they were doing seemed like fun. And as the song ended and the dancing ended, you'll be wishing in your heart of hearts that this fun and exciting and traditional flash mob didn't have to end.
